Rickhouse
Located in the heart of the Financial District, Rickhouse is a new addition to the city's bar scene, having opened only in 2009. The bar is known for quality, original cocktails. This is a good bar to visit if you like trying new things and you like your drinks to be delicious. Another bar to compare it to is Elixir, a similarly dimly-lit, history-oriented bar that focuses on both classics and new cocktail creations. If you're downtown on a Friday night, you've got to stop by Rickhouse.
As you can see in the image at left, the bartenders adhere to an old-time look- no ripped shirts and jeans here, the bartenders wear ties and suspenders, your first hint that this is not your average bar. Your second hint is that the cocktail list is long, but not intimidating. Any drink under the sun can be concocted here. When I came, my friend and I weren't sure what to order, and I said that I liked mojitos. Our friendly bartender then made a tall drink with blackberries and mint (lots of ice, too); the ensuing drink was delicious, tasting like a mojito but unlike any I had had before. The drink was neither too strong nor too weak. It was just right.
The service, as mentioned above, is friendly, and while the place gets busy, you'll never have to wait too long to get your drink. The bar is divided into two large, wood-paneled rooms, one in front and one in back. And while Rickhouse is growing in popularity, you'll never feel too crowded. The clientele is a nice mix of well-dressed, young professionals enjoying an after work drink. If you want a different experience-somewhere to take an out of town guest, or a date- Rickhouse is an excellent choice.
