Macy's

Macy's

San Francisco is an especially nice place to visit at Christmastime. The city skyline lights up at night, and there are plenty of sights to see during a casual daytrip.  A good place to start is Union Square, center of the city's retail shopping hub and home to a giant Christmas tree and an ice skating rink that is open until January 16th.

Sanraku: Amazing Sushi

Sanraku: Amazing Sushi

Sanraku restaurant is one of those places where there is often a line, but patrons wait because they know that the meal is well worth the wait.  I recently went to the Sutter Street restaurant and enjoyed an amazing meal. I even tried some things I wouldn't normally eat, and it was all delicious.

Bachelor Days Are Over

Bachelor Days Are Over

The San Francisco Film Society has presented several film cycles from around the world this fall, like Taiwan and Hong Kong, and will soon be showing several recent French films at French Cinema Now. There will be a variety of films shown- from family drama to comedy to coming of age story- but the one thing all the movies have in common is that they represent a sampling of what moviegoers in France have been seeing in theaters for the last year.

Anthony's Cookies

Anthony's Cookies

The classic chocolate chip cookie is delicious, with gooey, warm chocolate and a chewy dough that is sweet but not too sweet. The oatmeal raisin has a hearty taste of oats, with plenty of plump raisins. And for the more adventurous, there are flavors like Toffee Chip, German Chocolate, and Banana Walnut.

District Wine Bar

District Wine Bar

District is a great wine bar where you can enjoy beer and a selection of cocktails if wine is not your drink of choice.  The spacious bar is located on Townsend Street in Soma, and is a good place for both Happy Hour drinks for those who work for the many tech companies in the area, as well as Friday and Saturday nights on the town, if a crowded bar is more your thing.

Wayfare Tavern

Wayfare Tavern

With much fanfare, celebrity chef Tyler Florence recently opened Wayfare Tavern in the heart of the Financial District. The new restaurant has the same old-time feel as other new restaurants and bars in the local scene, such as Rickhouse, with bartenders in suspenders serving classic cocktails, and Comstock Saloon, which evokes a Gold Rush-era saloon.

HRD's Famous Mongolian Cheesesteak

HRD's Famous Mongolian Cheesesteak

When sharing news of a hole in the wall restaurant that few people know about, one runs the risk of turning a secret into a very well-known place. Lines get longer. It gets harder to find a table. Well, the secret is definitely out about HRD Coffee Shop on 3rd Street, just a stone's throw from AT&T Park.
